The Budgerigar Society is the governing body of every society and association in England, Wales and The Republic Of Ireland.
If you decide to join the Budgerigar Society, which is of course very worthwhile (especially if you are starting out) you will receive your welcome pack from the society, and then bi-monthly you will receive a copy of the Society's publication 'The Budgerigar'.
By joining the Budgerigar Society you can buy your own rings which will be printed with either the code number you are allocated, or you can have a personalized one made, for example BS 1. You would also be well advised to join the veterinary diagnostic scheme (VDS) where your birds can be sent if they have died and you don' know the cause. Dr. Baker will perform a postmortem on your bird and send you a full report so that you can, perhaps, safeguard the health of the rest of your stock! This costs £8 (at 2009) per person but is well worth the money.
